Welcome to the Abington Area Girls Softball League!
We are a nonprofit, recreational softball organization formed with the mission of providing girls between the ages of 4 and 17 with the opportunity to foster friendships and learn teamwork, sportsmanship, healthy competition, fair play and leadership through the sport of softball. Our home fields are located at Hillside Park on Route 307 in South Abington Township. We typically register approximately 400 girls for our spring and fall seasons.
Our divisions are organized by age and all levels of experience welcome. Current age groups include 5U (tee ball), 7U, 10U developmental and 10U competitive, 12U, 14U and 17U.
The 5U, 7U, and 10U developmental divisions are considered “house league” and primarily play other AAGSL teams at our home fields. Games for 5U and 7U are typically played on the weekends and are primarily coach pitch. 10U developmental starts the season with coach pitch and transitions to girls pitching throughout the season. 10U developmental is perfect for age appropriate girls who have never played softball before, families that do not want to travel or players that could further refine their skills before starting to travel to play other local teams.
Our 10U competitive, 12U and 14U teams participate in the Valley Petunia League. Games here are more competitive with teams competing for a berth in the year-end playoff tournaments usually held in June. In 10U competitive and older, girls pitch the entire game. Following the regular season, the girls are eligible to make an Abington sponsored all-star team that will participate in tournaments throughout July and into August. To be eligible for both the year-end regular season tournament and the all-star teams, girls must comply with the Valley Petunia League minimum game participation rule.
The Spring softball season starts typically in late March and lasts into June. The Fall softball season starts in late August and runs through mid-October.
For 2018, discounted Spring registration runs from January 4th to February 18th. Cost for Spring registration is $85 for the first child, $60 for each additional sibling. After February 18th, Spring registration fees are $100 for the first child, $75 for each additional sibling. Registration closes on February 26th. After this date, placement on a team cannot be guaranteed. Registration fees cover the costs involved in running the league including uniforms, umpires, equipment and supplies. Click here to complete your online registration. To continue to provide our girls with a high quality experience, we need sponsors. If you own a business or have a connection to a local business, please consider sponsorship. We have many different sponsorship levels available. Sponsorship information can be found on our Home page and in the registration process. Both team and field sponsors are needed by the beginning of April.
Because we are a volunteer league, parents are encouraged to participate by volunteering to be a coach, assistant coach, or team parent. All parents will be required to staff the snack stand at some point during the season. To volunteer to be a coach, you must obtain your clearances, concussion training and complete a code of ethics pledge. Links to those documents can be found on our Home page.
Thank you for your interest in Abington Area Girls Softball and we hope to see you on the diamond.
